Call to Action for Racial Equality (CARE) is a community-driven, racial equity non-profit organization based in Charleston, West Virginia that is working towards dismantling systemic racism plaguing communities of color across West Virginia through community organizing efforts, leadership development, and policy change. Upcoming efforts and activities for 2019 include facilitating a youth racial justice club to develop young leaders, hosting West Virginia’s an annual CARE conference on racial equity, launching a new, racial justice policy campaign, and expanding our anti-racist policing model.

This position will give an employee hands-on and in-the-field experience working on campaigns for racial justice and movement building. An Office Manager will work directly with the Executive Director to support the organizational flow and efficiency. This position is best suited for a person who has a demonstrated commitment to an anti-oppression framework, is passionate about undoing institutional racism, and has a working knowledge of the local and national news and policies relating to race, mass incarceration, and police brutality.

Our organization is looking for an Office Manager to be responsible for handling clerical tasks in our office. You will be handling incoming phone calls and other communications, greeting clients and visitors, as well as managing files, updating paperwork and other documents, and performing other general office clerk duties and errands. In order for you to be selected as a candidate, you will need the ability to write clearly and be proficient with word processing applications. A pleasing personality with strong communication skills is also highly valued.

As an Office Manager at CARE Coalition, a typical day might include the following:

  • Handling incoming calls and other communications
  • Creating, maintaining, and entering information into bookkeeping and filling databases
  • Recording information as needed
  • Cultivating, sustaining, updating, and organizing the content of the CARE website including blogs post, calendar updates
  • Create and maintain CARE presence on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat
  • Greeting clients and visitors as needed
  • Updating paperwork, maintaining documents and word processing
  • Helping organize and maintain office common areas
  • Performing general office clerk duties and errands
  • Organizing travel by booking accommodations and reservations needs as required
  • Coordinating events as necessary
  • Maintaining supply inventory
  • Maintaining office equipment as needed
  • Experience as a virtual assistant
  • Write and/or copy-edit articles for our e-Newsletter\
  • Respond in a timely manner to low-priority emails
  • Participate in the planning of the Racial Justice conference which may include calling vendors, caterers, or helping to create flyers
  • Place news stories in local media outlets, highlighting the work of our coalition
  • Keep notes of events, conference calls, private organizational meetings, public meetings relating to racial justice of groups in our community
